Winches for Forklift

Forklift Winch - Winches are mechanical devices which can pull up or wind out the tension of a wire rope, rope, wire cable or cable. These tools, in its most basic form, are constructed of a hand crank and a spool. More complicated winches are found at the heart of machines like for instance elevators, steam shovels and tow trucks. At times the spool could be known as the winch drum. Elaborate designs have gear assemblies which could be driven by internal, hydraulic, electric or pneumatic combustion drives. Various winches could comprise a solenoid brake or a mechanical brake or a ratchet and pawl device so as to prevent it from unwinding unless the pawl is retracted.

Normally, the rope is stored on the winch. There is similar piece of equipment referred to as a capstan which does not store the rope. In sailing, when trimming a line on a sailboat, the crew member works the handle of the winch utilizing one hand while tailing the other so as to maintain tension on the turns. Some winches have a stripper or cleat in order to maintain tension. These designs are known as "self-tailing" winches.

Usually, a winch is utilized in large theatrical productions as a part of the mechanics in order to move background. Occasionally there are even winches actually imbedded in the stage in order to help move the many larger set pieces on and off the stage.

The new generation of winches have been created for snow and water sports enabling the riders to be pulled quickly across a body of snow or of water. This can stimulate a riding experience that is usually supplied by a wave runner, boat or a snow mobile.
